UQ Climate for Change

Sat, 20/02/2010 - 10:28pm — Anonymous

About

UQ Climate for Change is a group of students and staff at the University of Queensland who came together to raise awareness and generate action on issues of environmental sustainability, and most urgently, on climate change.

What is UQ CLIMATE for CHANGE?

We believe that our Universities, as centres of learning, research and critical thought, should demonstrate leadership in environmental management and in research and education for sustainability.

Living up to this responsibility is vital for the sake of ours and future generations, and is the only ethical response to the current sustainability emergency of climate change, environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity and depletion of natural resources.

We are involved in advocacy and awareness projects at university, state and national levels, and encourage you to get involved!

For UQ, our main aim is a systemic and co-ordinated 'Sustainability Plan' to integrate sustainability and climate issues into UQ’s research, operations, teaching and outreach.

In 2010 we will be involved in a new steering group for the uni, and in helping the new Global Change Institute to become a forum and catalyst for developing better teaching programs and social and scientific research.

We are also involved in advocacy and events beyond UQ, and work together with other climate and sustainability networks including ASEN – the Australian Student Environment Network, to support projects for youth outreach, changes in Australia's policies, and to call for international action for a safe climate.

Meetings

Tuesdays from 12pm - 1pm at Wordsmith's Cafe, on Staff House Rd

If it's sunny we may move to the Natural Amphitheater by the UQ lakes - just down the hill from Wordsmiths. Look out for the yellow paper windmill.
